99 Names of Allah – Asma ul Husna with Quranic Meanings

Asma ul Husna, the Beautiful Names of Allah, are the most exalted titles by which the Creator is known in Islam. They are not mere vocabulary but descriptions of His perfect attributes: His mercy, sovereignty, knowledge, wisdom, and power. The Qur’an commands believers to learn and use them: “To Allah belong the Most Beautiful Names, so call upon Him by them.” (Surah Al-A’raf 7:180) In another verse, the Qur’an describes a day when Allah’s Beautiful Names and lofty attributes will be invoked, and all creation will pray to Him through them: “To Allah belong the Most Beautiful Names, so invoke Him by them.” (Surah Al-Hashr 59:22–24)

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ placed great emphasis on knowing these Names. In a well-known hadith, he said: “Allah has ninety-nine Names, one hundred minus one; whoever enumerates them will enter Paradise.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 7392; Sahih Muslim 2677) The scholars explained that “enumerates” does not simply mean counting. It means to understand each Name, reflect on its meaning, and act upon it by fulfilling the rights that Name demands — for example, knowing that He is Al-Ghaffar leads to sincere repentance, and knowing He is Al-Wadud leads to showing love and kindness to others.
