Introduction to Surah Al-Naba

This surah comes at number 78. It has 2 Rukus and 40 verses. This is a Meccan surah. It was revealed during the early period of the establishment of Mecca.

Al-Naba means news, mean news of the Resurrection and the Hereafter. These three topics are discussed in this whole surah:

1 The monotheism of Allah.

2 Messengership of the Holy Prophet.

3 Day of Judgment.

In this surah, Allah Ta’ala has admonished the polytheists and the disbelievers that they deny the Day of Resurrection due to ignorance.

Then Allah explained His verses of power that He created them and everything in the universe. It is He who gives them death and then He will resurrect them on the Day of Resurrection.

And He will reward or punish the believers and disbelievers according to their good deeds.

سورة النبأ

﷽

عَمَّ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ ﴿1﴾ عَنِ النَّبَإِ الْعَظِيمِ ﴿2﴾ الَّذِي هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ ﴿3﴾ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ ﴿4﴾ ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ ﴿5﴾ أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْأَرْضَ مِهَادًا ﴿6﴾ وَالْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا ﴿7﴾ وَخَلَقْنَاكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا ﴿8﴾ وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا ﴿9﴾ وَجَعَلْنَا اللَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا ﴿10﴾ وَجَعَلْنَا النَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا ﴿11﴾ وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا ﴿12﴾ وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا ﴿13﴾ وَأَنْزَلْنَا مِنَ الْمُعْصِرَاتِ مَاءً ثَجَّاجًا ﴿14﴾ لِنُخْرِجَ بِهِ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا ﴿15﴾ وَجَنَّاتٍ أَلْفَافًا ﴿16﴾ إِنَّ يَوْمَ الْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَاتًا ﴿17﴾ يَوْمَ يُنْفَخُ فِي الصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا ﴿18﴾ وَفُتِحَتِ السَّمَاءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَابًا ﴿19﴾ وَسُيِّرَتِ الْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا ﴿20﴾ إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا ﴿21﴾ لِلطَّاغِينَ مَآبًا ﴿22﴾ لَابِثِينَ فِيهَا أَحْقَابًا ﴿23﴾ لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا ﴿24﴾ إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا ﴿25﴾ جَزَاءً وِفَاقًا ﴿26﴾ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا ﴿27﴾ وَكَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا كِذَّابًا ﴿28﴾ وَكُلَّ شَيْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَاهُ كِتَابًا ﴿29﴾ فَذُوقُوا فَلَنْ نَزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا ﴿30﴾ إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا ﴿31﴾ حَدَائِقَ وَأَعْنَابًا ﴿32﴾ وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا ﴿33﴾ وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا ﴿34﴾ لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّابًا ﴿35﴾ جَزَاءً مِنْ رَبِّكَ عَطَاءً حِسَابًا ﴿36﴾ رَبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا الرَّحْمَٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا ﴿37﴾ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الرُّوحُ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ صَفًّا ۖ لَا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ الرَّحْمَٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا ﴿38﴾ ذَٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَنْ شَاءَ اتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِ مَآبًا ﴿39﴾ إِنَّا أَنْذَرْنَاكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنْظُرُ الْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ الْكَافِرُ يَا لَيْتَنِي كُنْتُ تُرَابًا ﴿40﴾

Transliteration English

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem

‘Amma Yatasaa-aloon
‘Anin-nabaa-il ‘azeem
Allazi hum feehi mukh talifoon
Kallaa sa y’alamoon
Thumma kallaa sa y’alamoon
Alam naj’alil arda mihaa da
Wal jibaala au taada
Wa khalaq naakum azwaaja
Waja’alna naumakum subata
Waja’alnal laila libasa
Waja’alnan nahara ma ‘aasha
Wa banaina fauqakum sab ‘an shi daada
Waja’alna siraajaw wah haaja
Wa anzalna minal m’usiraati maa-an thaj-jaaja
Linukh rija bihee habbaw wana baata
Wa jan naatin alfafa
Inna yaumal-fasli kana meeqaata
Yauma yun fakhu fis-soori fataa toona afwaaja
Wa futiha tis samaa-u fakaanat abwaaba
Wa suyyi raatil jibaalu fa kaanat saraaba
Inna jahan nama kaanat mirsaada
Lit taa gheena ma aaba
Laa bitheena feehaa ahqaaba
Laa ya zooqoona feeha bar daw walaa sharaaba
Illa hamee maw-wa ghas saaqa
Jazaa-aw wi faaqa
Innahum kaanu laa yarjoona hisaaba
Wa kazzabu bi aayaa tina kizzaba
Wa kulla shai-in ahsai naahu kitaa ba
Fa zooqoo falan-nazee dakum ill-laa azaaba (section 1)
Inna lil mutta qeena mafaaza
Hadaa-iqa wa a’anaa ba
Wa kaawa ‘iba at raaba
Wa ka’san di haaqa
Laa yasma’oona fiha lagh waw walaa kizzaba
Jazaa-am mir-rabbika ataa-an hisaaba
Rabbis samaa waati wal ardi wa maa baina humar rahmaani laa yam likoona minhu khitaaba
Yauma yaqoo mur roohu wal malaa-ikatu saf-fal laa yatakallamoona ill-laa man azina lahur rahmaanu wa qaala sawaaba
Zaalikal yaumul haqqu faman shaa-at ta khaaza ill-laa rabbihi ma-aaba
In naa anzar naakum azaaban qareebaiy-yauma yan zurul marr-u maa qaddamat yadaahu wa ya qoolul-kaafiru yaa lai tanee kuntu turaba

Translation

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

About what are they asking each other?
About the Great Event
in which they dispute!
Indeed they will soon know.
Again, indeed they will soon know.
Did We not make the earth a floor,
and the mountains bulwarks?
And We have created you in pairs,
and made your sleep a source of rest,
and made the night a covering,
and made the day a source of livelihood.
And We have built seven strong (skies) ,
and created a luminous lamp (the sun) .
And We have sent down abundant water from the rain-laden clouds,
so that We bring out therewith grain and vegetation,
and thick gardens.
Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time,
a day when the trumpet will be blown, so you will come in multitudes,
and the sky will be opened, so it will become as gates,
and the mountains will be set in motion, so they will be as mirage.
Surely Jahannam (the Hell) lurks in ambush.
(It is) abode for the rebellious people
who will be abiding in it for ages.
They will taste nothing cool in it, nor a drink,
except boiling water and pus,
this being a punishment, fully commensurate (with their deeds) .
They did not expect (to face) accounting (of their deeds) ,
and they rejected Our signs totally.
And everything (from their deeds) is thoroughly recorded by Us in writing.
:So now taste! We will add nothing to you but torment.
Of course, the God-fearing will have great achievement,
__gardens and grapes,
and buxom maidens of matching age,
and goblets filled up to the brim.
They will not hear any vain talk therein, nor lies,
this being a reward from their Lord, a well calculated grant,
(from) the Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, the All-Merciful. No one will have power to address Him,
on the Day when the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows. They will not speak, except the one who is permitted by the RaHman (the All-Merciful Allah) and speaks aright.
That is the Day that is sure to come. So whoever so wishes may take refuge with his Lord.
We have warned you of an approaching torment (that will be inflicted) on a day when one will see what his hands have sent ahead, and the disbeliever will say, :O would that I had turned into dust.
