Dhikr (remembrance of Allah) is a very valuable thing. It contains great sweetness and delight, and the greatest aspect is that it brings one closer to Allah. When a person remembers Allah, the Lord of Majesty, Allah Almighty becomes pleased with him and remembers him in return. As Allah the Exalted says: ‘So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.’ [Surah Al-Baqarah: 152]

In this noble verse, Allah the Exalted has commanded His servants to remember Him abundantly. From this, we understand that the remembrance of Allah is a great, easy, and light act of worship. It does not require intense mental effort nor physical exertion; it merely involves moving the tongue, provided the heart and mind of the one reciting are present. Its reward is very great, and its benefits are also countless, attained by the servant in both this world and the Hereafter.

There is no specific fixed time for the remembrance of Allah; a servant can remember their Lord whenever they wish, in every situation. However, some specific remembrances (Adhkar) and prayers.

Virtues of Adhkar and Supplications

  • A person’s faith (Iman) increases.
  • A connection with Allah the Exalted is maintained.
  • The pleasure of Allah, the Lord of Majesty, is attained.
  • The heart feels tranquility and the chest feels relief (a sense of openness).
  • Sustenance is expanded, and debts are paid off.
  • There is protection from the evil of Satan.
  • There is protection from envy and the evil eye.
  • The body gains strength and energy.
  • Good deeds and rewards are increased.
  • Sins and faults are forgiven.
  • One is freed from all grief, worries, and anxieties of this world and the Hereafter.
  • There is protection from the evil of humans, jinn, and all other creatures.
  • By the grace and favor of Allah, entry into Paradise is granted.
  • Allah the Exalted mentions the remembering servant in the highest assembly (Al-Mala’ al-A’la – the gathering of angels).
  • The blessings of Allah the Exalted and the barakah (blessing) in them remain forever.

All these virtues are proven from the blessed Hadiths. Reciting them is from the Sunnah of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), and one should always act upon them.

Translation: Allah! There is no deity save Him, the Alive, the Eternal. Neither slumber nor sleep overtaketh Him. Unto Him belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. Who is he that intercedeth with Him save by His leave? He knoweth that which is in front of them and that which is behind them, while they encompass nothing of His knowledge save what He will. His throne includeth the heavens and the earth, and He is never weary of preserving them. He is the Sublime, the Tremendous.

About Aytul Kursi: There are many virtues about Ayatul Kursi, but especially about reciting it in the morning, as narrated in al-Tabarani’s Mu’jam al-Kabir under hadith number [17012]  On the authority of Muhammad bin Ubayy bin Ka’b, from his father: Ubayy bin Ka’b, His father sayes: He had a container of dates that kept decreasing. So one night, he stood guard over it, and suddenly there was a creature resembling a young man who had reached puberty. He (Ubai) greeted it, and it returned the greeting.

He (Ubai) asked, “What are you? A jinn or a human?”

It replied, “No, rather a jinn.”

He said, “Give me your hand.” So it gave him its hand, and it was the hand of a dog and its hair was the hair of a dog.

He (Ubai) said, “Is this how the jinn are created?”

It said, “The jinn know that there is no man among them stronger than me.”

He (Ubai) asked, “Why you came here?”

It replied, “We heard that you love to give charity, so we came to get some of your food.”

He (Ubai) asked, “What will save us from you?”

It said, “This verse in Surah Al-Baqarah: ‘Allahu la ilaha illa Huwa, Al-Hayyul-Qayyum. Whoever says it in the evening will be protected from us until the morning, and whoever says it in the morning will be protected from us until the evening.”

When morning came, he went to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and mentioned that to him. He (the Prophet) said, “The wicked one has told the truth.”

Note: Imam al-Haythami mentioned this narration in Majma’ al-Zawa’id (10/118) on the authority of al-Tabarani in al-Kabir and then said: “All the narrators of this hadith are thiqah (trustworthy, reliable).” He is indicating that this narration is sahih (authentic). Furthermore, al-Diya’ al-Maqdisi mentioned it in his book al-Mukhtarah, hadith number [1260], and said: “The sanad (chain of narration) of this hadith is sahih (authentic).

O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the punishment of the grave. There is no god but You.’

Related this supplication:  there is a hadith in Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith Number [5090], it is narrated from Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:

“I used to hear my father reciting this supplication three times every morning and evening. About this dua: The virtue of this supplication is that whoever recites it three times each in the morning and the evening will, Allah willing, remain protected from any kind of impending harm, illness, accident, or calamity. This prayer is like a shield that protects from every evil.

Translation: Allah is free from imperfection and I begin with His praise, as many times as the number of His creatures, in accordance with His Good Pleasure, equal to the weight of His Throne and equal to the ink that may be used in recording the words (for His Praise.

Regarding this supplication: there is a hadith in Sahih Muslim [2726], it is narrated from Hazrat Juwayriyah (رضي الله عنها) that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ left her presence after performing the Fajr (morning) prayer while she was still sitting in her prayer place (musalla).

Then, when the Prophet ﷺ returned around midday (Dhuhr), he found her still sitting in the same place. He asked with surprise, “Have you been sitting here in the same state since I left you?” She replied, “Yes.” Thereupon, the Prophet ﷺ said:

“After I left you, I recited these four phrases three times. If they were to be weighed against all that you have recited (of dhikr and praise) since this morning, they would outweigh it or be equal to it.”

Besides these, there are many other Duas andAdhkar. However, this collection specifically includes those supplications that are also recommended to be recited in the morning.

Their benefits are proven from authentic Hadiths. The only necessary conditions are the reader’s correct belief and sincere intention. Insha’Allah, there will certainly be benefit.
