What is the Qurbani? History Of Qurbani, (sacrifice) And Why Is This Done?
The Qurbani is the Sunnah of Allah’s Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim Alaihissalam, it is cam in the Holy Quran that: Hazrat Ibrahim Alaihismalam dreamt that he was sacrificing his only and beloved son Hazrat Ismail Alaihissalam, and when he repeatedly saw this dream , he told his son about it, then the son happily agreed to sacrifice himself in the path of Allah.
Now when Ibraheem Alaihissalam put knife on the neck of his lovely son, and tried to cut his neck, called him Allah: stop stop, and sent a Dumba from sky please listen to what allah subhanahu tala saying:
Translation: Then, when they had submitted, and he put his forehead down. We called out to him, “O Abraham!
You have fulfilled the vision.” Thus We reward the doers of good. This was certainly an evident test. 107. And We redeemed him with a great sacrifice. And We left with him for later generations. Peace be upon Abraham. (Surah Assaafaat: 103-109)
Allah Ta‘ala liked this passion of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and his effort to carry out the commands of Allah so much that he continued this Sunnah of Qurbani till the Day of Judgment,
Our profit Hazrat Muhammad (S A W) lived in Medina Munauvvara for 10 years and made equal Qurbani every year, and ordered Sahaba for doing sacrifice.
Importance Of Qurbani, Hadith About Sacrifice on Eid-ul Adha
Translation: On the authority of Zayd ibn Arqam, he said (Raziallahu Anhu) that Sahaba asked Rasulullah (S A W): O Messenger of Allah! What is the sacrifice? he replied: “This is the Sunnah of your father Hazrat Ibrahim (A S), then Sahaba asked,” How we will benefit from this? ” he said: “For every hair of the sacrificial animal there is a reward ” Sahaba then asked, “What do you want to say about the animal which has wool?” he said: You will get a reward too in every wool. (Sunn e ibne e majah: hadith no: 3127, sunan e baahki hadith no: 19017)
Translation: It is narrated from Hazrat Ayesha that Rasulullah (S A W) said: ” there is no work On the day of Eid Ul Adha better than from shed blood (sacrifice), the animal that has been sacrificed will come on the Day of Judgment with his horn, hair and hooves, before the blood of the sacrifice falls on the ground, Allah accepts it,, so make your heart happy with this news”. (Sunanut Tirmizi Hadith Number: 1493)
Who Is Eligible For Qurbani?
Every Muslim on whom zakat is compulsory, that is he pays zakat every year, he is required to offer qurbani.
And Zakat is compulsory for a person who has 666 gram or more silver, or 78 gram or more gold, Or money of the same value as these metals.
What The Difference Between Qurbani And Zakat?
The issue of Qurbani is a little different from Zakat, and that is, it is not compulsory that one year should have passed on the money of sacrifice like zakat. A person who was not eligible for qurbani before two or three months of the sacrifice, and now if he anyhow gets enough wealth that makes him Sahib-E-Nisab just before a week of the sacrifice then sacrifice is compulsory on him but zakat will only be compulsory on him if he possesses this wealth for one year. So he will give zakat after on year of possession of this wealth.
Who Should Be Sacrificed?
It is generally famous that if a sacrifice is first performed in a house, it should be done in the name of prophet Mohammad (S A), but that is right, if the sacrifice is compulsory on anyone, First of all it is necessary to sacrifice in his own name. If the sacrifice is not compulsory on anyone, then he can do it in the name of prophet Mohammad (S A) and also in his own name.
Sacrifice Animals, Age of Animal for Sacrifice
Dumba, goat, sheep can be sacrificed in the name of one person, and cows, oxen, buffaloes, and camels can be sacrificed in the name of seven persons.
Note: It is compulsory for a goat to be 1 year old, If sheep and Dumba is less than one year, but if it looks as one year old, then it can be sacrificed.
Issue: The sacrifice of an animal whose horn has been uprooted is not right.
Issue: The sacrifice of blind, and lame animal is also not allowed.
Issue: Even the animal whose ear is severed not right to sacrifice.
Issue: After purchasing an animal of the sacrifice, has cam a defect in it, then if the man is rich then it is necessary to offer the sacrifice of another animal, and if the man is poor then it is not necessary to purchase another animal. Offer the sacrifice of the same animal.
Sacrifice And Qurbani Time
The time of the Sacrifice begins from 10 Zilhijjah (on the day of Eid –ul-Azha) and the last time till the prayer of Asr on the third day, mean 12 Zilhijjah
The Qurbani time begins after the prayer of Eid –al-Azha, in cities or villages where Eid –al-Azha prayer is offered, the sacrifice is not right before the Eid prayer, and the places where the Eid prayer is not offered, people can sacrifice before the Eid prayer.
The Dua of The Sacrifice And Its Intention
Suffice the intention of the sacrifice from the heart, there is no need to say by tongue, but it is mandatory to say: Bismillah Allahu Akbar when doing slaughtering.
Sunnah Method Of Sacrifice
It is best to offer the slaughter yourself, because prophet Muhammad slaughtered the sacrifice with his own hand.
If a person cannot slaughter in a good way, then he can get some other person to slaughter, but at the time of slaughtering, it is better to stay near the animal of sacrifice.
Before the sacrifice, tie the animal in a good way, and move it towards the Qibla, mean the Baitullah (Home of allah), and the slaughterer himself should move towards the Qibla, and sharpen the knife as well.
After That Say This Dua
Inni Wajjahtu Wajahia Lillazi Fatsamawati Valarzi Hanifaon Wama Ana Minal Musharikin Inna Salati Vanusuki Wamhaia Vamati Lillahi Rabbil Alameen Lashrika Blood Vajijalika Umiratu Vana Avavul Muslimeen.
After that say: Bismillah Allahu Akbar.
After that slaughter the animal.
After slaughtering the animal say the dua:
Allahumma Taqbbalhu Minni Kma Taqballta Min Habibika Muhammad, w Khalilika Ibraheem Alaihima asslaam.
Note: “Minni” says in dua when you are offering your sacrifice. and if the sacrifice of the other person is done, then after “Min”, say his name of it, for example “Min Hamid”, or “Min Rashid”, etc.
Qurbani Meat Distribution Rules
If the animal has more than one participant, then the meat should be weighed.
After that, do 3 parts of your sacrifice meat, keep one part for your family members, and the 2nd part for your friends, and the 3nd for the poor. But this division is not necessary, if you need, you can eat all the meat of the sacrifice yourself.
Now-a-days, large animals are not offered for sacrifice in many places of our country India. In such places the meat can’t reach to the poor people , and they eat like ordinary days even in the period of sacrifice,
Therefore, in my opinion, some guidelines must be made for distribution of meat especially to the poor people.
Issue: It is forbidden to sell the meat of the sacrifice. This order is for the one who sacrifices, if a poor person has been given meat of the sacrifice, he can sell the meat according to his requirement.
Issue: It is not right to give the meat of the sacrifice or the skin of the sacrifice as wages of the slaughterer.
Can Qurbani Meat Be Distributed To Non-muslims?
There is nothing wrong in giving meat of the sacrifice to a non-Muslim.
In the Holy Quran Surah Haj, verse number: 28 says Allah Ta’ala:
{لِيَشْهَدُوا مَنَافِعَ لَهُمْ وَيَذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ فِي أَيَّامٍ مَعْلُومَاتٍ عَلَى مَا رَزَقَهُمْ مِنْ بَهِيمَةِ الْأَنْعَامِ فَكُلُوا مِنْهَا وَأَطْعِمُوا الْبَائِسَ الْفَقِيرَ} [الحج: 28]
Translation: That they may witness benefits for themselves and mention the name of Allah on known days over what He has provided for them of [sacrificial] animals. So eat of them and feed the miserable and poor.
So there is no mention of Muslim or non-Muslim in this verse.
Whoever is poor or who needs food, can be offered meat of the sacrifice.
Sacrifice skin
If you want to sell it, it is mandatory to donate its price.
It is best to give the skin of sacrifice in religious schools.
Or you can also give it to an NGO who helps poor with this money.
