Certainly, the Dhikr and remembrance of Allah is nourishment for the soul. it is what connects us to Allah Almighty,
it is a means through which a Muslim draws closer to Allah. The Dhikr of Allah strengthens our connection with Him, and it protects us from the whispers of Satan, all types of harms, and every kind of calamity and affliction. Indeed, in adhering to the remembrance of Allah lies the secret to great success in both this world and the Hereafter.
Among the morning and evening supplications (Adhkar), there are some important Adhkar that every Muslim should recite daily. By reciting them, one gains closeness to Allah. Allah Almighty is pleased with those who supplicate to Him, forgives their sins, showers them with His blessings and bounties, and mentions the remembering servants in the assembly of angels.
Truly, through the remembrance of Allah the human heart finds tranquility. It experiences a joy, happiness, and pleasure that cannot be felt from anything in this world. Indeed, the statement of Allah Almighty is true:
﴿الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُمْ بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ أَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ﴾ [الرعد: 28]
Translation: The ones who believe and their hearts are peaceful with the remembrance of Allah. Listen, the hearts find peace only in the remembrance of Allah.
Similarly, it is mentioned in a hadith of Sahih Bukhari and Muslim:
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: يَقُولُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: «أَنَا عِنْدَ ظَنِّ عَبْدِي بِي، وَأَنَا مَعَهُ حِينَ يَذْكُرُنِي، إِنْ ذَكَرَنِي فِي نَفْسِهِ، ذَكَرْتُهُ فِي نَفْسِي، وَإِنْ ذَكَرَنِي فِي مَلَإٍ، ذَكَرْتُهُ فِي مَلَإٍ هُمْ خَيْرٌ مِنْهُمْ، وَإِنْ تَقَرَّبَ مِنِّي شِبْرًا، تَقَرَّبْتُ إِلَيْهِ ذِرَاعًا، وَإِنْ تَقَرَّبَ إِلَيَّ ذِرَاعًا، تَقَرَّبْتُ مِنْهُ بَاعًا، وَإِنْ أَتَانِي يَمْشِي أَتَيْتُهُ هَرْوَلَةً. [صحيح البخاري: 7405، صحيح مسلم: 2675]
Translation: Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA) : The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, “Allah says: ‘I am just as My slave thinks I am, (i.e. I am able to do for him what he thinks I can do for him) and I am with him if He remembers Me. If he remembers Me in himself, I too, remember him in Myself; and if he remembers Me in a group of people, I remember him in a group that is better than they; and if he comes one span nearer to Me, I go one cubit nearer to him; and if he comes one cubit nearer to Me, I go a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him; and if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.” [Sahih Bukhari: 7405, and Sahih Muslim: 2675]
The virtues of remembrance (Dhikr) in general, and specifically the morning and evening Adhkār, have been emphasized in the Hadith. Therefore, we are mentioning the morning and evening Adhkār below:
Morning and evening remembrance (Adhkar) from Quranic verses
(1) Aytul Kursi: Transliteration:Allahu laaa ilaaha illaa Huwal Haiyul Qaiyoom; laa taakhuzuhoo sinatunw wa laa nawm; lahoo maa fissamaawaati wa maa fil ard; man zal lazee yashfa’u indahooo illaa bi-iznih; ya’lamu maa baina aydeehim wa maa khalfahum wa laa yuheetoona bishai’im min ‘ilmihee illaa bimaa shaaa’; wasi’a Kursiyyuhus samaawaati wal arda wa laa Ya’ooduhoo hifzuhumaa; wa Huwal Aliyyul ‘Azeem.
(Recite one time before sleeping)
﴿اللّهُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ لاَ تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلاَ نَوْمٌ لَّهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ مَن ذَا الَّذِي يَشْفَعُ عِنْدَهُ إِلاَّ بِإِذْنِهِ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَلاَ يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِّنْ عِلْمِهِ إِلاَّ بِمَا شَاء وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ وَلاَ يَؤُودُهُ حِفْظُهُمَا وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ﴾. [سورة البقرة: 255]
Translation: Allah! There is no deity save Him, the Alive, the Eternal. Neither slumber nor sleep overtaketh Him. Unto Him belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. Who is he that intercedeth with Him save by His leave? He knoweth that which is in front of them and that which is behind them, while they encompass nothing of His knowledge save what He will. His throne includeth the heavens and the earth, and He is never weary of preserving them. He is the Sublime, the Tremendous.
About Aytul Kursi: It was Narrated by Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه): The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “Whenever you go to bed, recite “Ayat-al-Kursi”– ‘Allahu la ilaha illa huwa-l-Haiy-ul Qaiyum’ till you finish the whole verse. (If you do so), Allah will appoint a guard for you who will stay with you and no satan will come near you till morning. [Sahih al-Bukhari: 2311]
(2) The last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah:
Transliteration: Aamanar-Rasoolu bimaaa unzila ilaihi mir-Rabbihee walmu’minoon; kullun aamana billaahi wa Malaaa’ikathihee wa Kutubhihee wa Rusulihee laa nufarriqu baina ahadim-mir-Rusulih wa qaaloo sami’naa wa ata’naa ghufraanaka Rabbanaa wa ilaikal-maseer
Transliteration: Laa yukalliful-laahu nafsan illaa wus’ahaa; lahaa maa kasabat wa ‘alaihaa maktasabat; Rabbanaa laa tu’aakhiznaaa in naseenaaa aw akhtaanaa; Rabbanaa wa laa tahmil-‘alainaaa isran kamaa hamaltahoo ‘alal-lazeena min qablinaa; Rabbanaa wa laa tuhammilnaa maa laa taaqata lanaa bih; wa’fu ‘annaa waghfir lanaa warhamnaa; Anta mawlaanaa fansurnaa ‘alal qawmil kaafireen.
(Recite one time before sleeping)
﴿آمَنَ الرَّسُولُ بِمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مِن رَّبِّهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۚ كُلٌّ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِّن رُّسُلِهِ ۚ وَقَالُوا سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا ۖ غُفْرَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَإِلَيْكَ الْمَصِيرُ﴾
﴿لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا ۚ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا اكْتَسَبَتْ ۗ رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِن نَّسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ ۖ وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا ۚ أَنتَ مَوْلَانَا فَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ﴾. [سورة البقرة: 285- 286]
Translation: The messenger believeth in that which hath been revealed unto him from his Lord and (so do) believers. Each one believeth in Allah and His angels and His scriptures and His messengers – We make no distinction between any of His messengers – and they say: We hear, and we obey. (Grant us) Thy forgiveness, our Lord. Unto Thee is the journeying.
Allah tasketh not a soul beyond its scope. For it (is only) that which it hath earned, and against it (only) that which it hath deserved. Our Lord! Condemn us not if we forget, or miss the mark! Our Lord! Lay not on us such a burden as thou didst lay on those before us! Our Lord! Impose not on us that which we have not the strength to bear! Pardon us, absolve us and have mercy on us, Thou, our Protector, and give us victory over the disbelieving folk.
About this verses: Regarding the virtue of reciting these two verses, there is a narration in Sahih al-Bukhari [5008] and Sahih Muslim [808] reported by Abu Mas’ud al-Badri (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him.”
This means that these two verses will protect the reciter from every evil that could harm him.
(3) Surah Ikhlas
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ﴿قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ* اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ* لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ* وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُ كُفُواً أَحَدٌ﴾.
Transliteration: Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem
Qul huwal laahu ahad, Allah hus-samad, Lam yalid wa lam yoolad, Wa lam yakul-lahoo kufuwan ahad.
(Recite three times in the morning and the evening)
Translation: Say, :The truth is that Allah is One.
Allah is besought of all, needing none.
He neither begot anyone, nor was he begotten.
And there hath never been co-equal with Him anyone.)
(4) Surah Falaq:
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ﴿قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ* مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ* وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ* وَمِن شَرِّ النَّفَّاثَاتِ فِي الْعُقَدِ* وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ﴾
Transliteration: Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem
Qul a’oozu bi rabbil-falaq
Min sharri maa khalaq
Wa min sharri ghaasiqin izaa waqab
Wa min sharrin-naffaa-saati fil ‘uqad
Wa min sharri haasidin izaa hasad
(Recite three times in the morning and the evening)
Translation:
(Say, :I seek refuge with the Lord of the daybreak
From the evil of what He has created;
And from the evil of the darkening (night) as it comes with its darkness; (or the moon as it sets or goes away) .
And from the evil of the witchcrafts when they blow in the knots,
And from the evil of the envier when he envies.)
(5) Surah Naas
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ﴿قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ* مَلِكِ النَّاسِ* إِلَهِ النَّاسِ* مِن شَرِّ الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ* الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ* مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَ النَّاسِ﴾
Transliteration: Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem
Qul a’oozu birabbin naas
Malikin naas
Ilaahin naas
Min sharril waswaasil khannaas
Allazee yuwaswisu fee sudoorin naas
Minal jinnati wannaas
(Recite three times in the morning and the evening)
Translation: (Say thou: I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind, the King of mankind, The God of mankind,
From the evil of the whisperer (devil who whispers evil in the hearts of men) who withdraws (from his whispering in one’s heart after one remembersAllah) , the one who whispers in the hearts of people, whether from among the Jinn or Mankind.)
Regarding the virtue of Surah Al-Ikhlas and Al-Mu’awwidhatayn , in Sunan al-Tirmidhi [3575] and Sunan Abi Dawud [5082], it is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Khaubaib (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said to me:
“Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas (Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad) and Al-Mu’awwidhatayn (Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas) three times in the morning and the evening. They will suffice you as a protection against every evil and ailment.”
Morning and evening remembrance (Adhkar) from prophetic hadiths
(6) Transliteration: Allāhumma innī a`ūdhu bika mina ‘l-ḥammi wa ‘l-ḥazan, wa ‘l-`ajzi wa ‘l-kasal, wa ‘l-bukhli wa ‘l-jubn, wa ḍala`id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijāl. [Sahih Bukhari: 6363]
اللهمَّ إنِّي أعوذُ بك من الهمِّ والحزنِ، والعجزِ والكسلِ، والبُخلِ والجُبنِ، وضَلَعِ الدَّينِ، وغَلَبَةِ الرجالِ. [رواه البخاري: 6363]
Translation: O Allah! I seek refuge with You from worry and grief, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and miserliness, from being heavily in debt and from being overpowered by (other) men.
ِAbout this dua: According this dua Hazrat Anas Bin Malik says: “The Prophet, صلى الله عليه وسلم used to often say this Dua and Dhikr. [Sahih Bukhari: 6363]
(7) Transliteration: Bismillāhi ‘l-ladhī lā yaḍurru ma`a-smihi shay’un fil-‘arḍi wa lā fis-samā’ wa huwas-Samī `ul-`Alīm.
(Recite three times in the morning and the evening).
بِسْمِ اللهِ الَّذِي لاَ يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الأَرْضِ وَلاَ فِي السَّمَاءِ، وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ العَلِيمُ. [رواه الترمذي في سننه: 3388، أبو داود في سننه: 5088]
Translation: In the Name of Allah, Who with His Name nothing can cause harm in the earth nor in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
About this dua: The virtue of this supplication is that whoever recites it three times each in the morning and the evening will, Allah willing, remain protected from any kind of impending harm, illness, accident, or calamity. This prayer is like a shield that protects from every evil.
Accordingly, it is narrated from Hazrat Uthman bin Affan (رضي الله عنه) in Sunan al-Tirmidhi,: [3388], and in Sunan Abi Dawud, [5088], that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “There is no worshiper who says, in the morning of every day, and the evening of every night this Dhikr three times, (except that) nothing shall harm him.”
(8) Transliteration: Yā Ḥayyu yā Qayyūmu biraḥmatika astaghīth aṣlih lī sha’nī kullah wa lā takilnī ilā nafsī ṭarfata `ayn. [Assunan Al Kubra: 10333, Shua’bul Iman: 745]
(Recite one time in the morning and the evening).
يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ، أَصْلِحْ لِي شَأْنِي كُلَّهُ، وَلَا تَكِلْنِي إِلَى نَفْسِي طَرْفَةَ عَيْنٍ. [السنن الكبرى: 10333، شعب الإيمان: 745]
Translation: O Ever-Living One, O Eternal One, by Your mercy I call on You to set right all my affairs. Do not place me in charge of my soul even for the blinking of an eye (i.s. a moment).
ِAbout this Dhikr: This supplication was taught by the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) to his daughter, Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her). It is narrated in Imam Bayhaqi’s Sunan al-Kubra Hadith No. [10333] and in Shu’b al-Iman Hadith No. [745] from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (رضي الله عنه). He says that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said to Sayyidah Fatimah (رضي الله عنها): What prevents you from listening to the advice I give you? Recite this supplication in the morning and evening.
(9) Transliteration: Allāhumma anta Rabbī lā ilāha illā ant, khalaqtanī wa anā `abduk, wa anā `alā `ahdika wa wa`dika mastaṭa`t, a`ūdhu bika min sharri mā ṣana`t, abū’u laka bi ni`matika `alay, wa abū’u bidhanbī faghfir lī fa’innahu lā yaghfirudh-dhunūba illā ant. [Sahih Bukhari: 6306]
(Recite one time in the morning and the evening).
اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ، وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ، وَأَبُوءُ لَكَ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي، فَإِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ. [رواه البخاري: 6306]
Translation: O Allah, You are my Lord, there is none worthy of worship but You. You created me and I am your slave. I keep Your covenant, and my pledge to You so far as I am able. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I admit to Your blessings upon me, and I admit to my misdeeds. Forgive me, for there is none who may forgive sins but You.
About this dhikr: Regarding the virtue of this supplication, in Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith Number [6306], it is narrated from Hazrat Shaddad bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet ﷺ said: “that if anyone says it during the day-time with firm belief in it and dies that day before evening, he will be one of those who go to paradise; and if anyone says it during the night with firm belief in it and dies before morning, he will be one of those who go to paradise.”
(10) Transliteration: Allāhumma `āfinī fī badanī, Allāhumma `āfinī fī sam`ī, Allāhumma `āfinī fī baṣarī, lā ilāha illā ant. Allāhumma innī a`ūdhu bika mina ‘l-kufri, wa ‘l-faqr, wa a`ūdhu bika min `adhābi ‘l-qabr, lā ilāha illā ant. [Sunan Abi daud: 5090]
(Recite three times in the morning and the evening).
اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي بَدَنِي، اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي سَمْعِي، اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي بَصَرِي، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ. اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْكُفْرِ، وَالفَقْرِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ القَبْرِ، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ. [رواه أبو داود في سننه: 5090]
Translation: ‘O Allah, make me healthy in my body. O Allah, make me healthy in my hearing. O Allah, make me healthy in my sight. There is no god but You.’ You repeat it three times in the evening and three times in the morning. And you say, ‘O Allah, I seek refuge with You from disbelief and poverty. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the punishment of the grave. There is no god but You.’
Related this supplication: there is a hadith in Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith Number [5090], it is narrated from Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:
“I used to hear my father reciting this supplication three times every morning and evening. Once I asked him, ‘Why do you recite this? and you repeat it three times in the evening and three times in the morning? He replied: “Yes, my son. I heard the Messenger of Allah, صلى الله عليه وسلم, say them and I like to follow his sunnah.”
(11) Transliteration: Allāhumma innī aṣbaḥtu ush-hiduka wa ush-hidu ḥamalata `arshik, wa malā’ikataka wajamī`a khalqik, annaka lā ilāha illā ant, wa anna Muḥammadan `abduka wa rasūluk.[ Sunan Abi Dawud: 5069, Al-Da’awat al-Kabir, by Imam Baihaqi: 40]
(Recite one time in the morning and the evening).
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَصْبَحْتُ أُشْهِدُكَ وَأُشْهِدُ حَمَلَةَ عَرْشِكَ وَمَلَائِكَتَكَ، وَجَمِيعَ خَلْقِكَ أَنَّكَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُكَ وَرَسُولُكَ. [رواه أبو داود في سننه: 5069، والبيهقي في الدعوات الكبير: 40]
Translation: O Allah! in the morning we call Thee, the bearers of Thy Throne, Thy angels and all Thy creatures to witness that thou art Allah (God) than Whom alone there is no god, and that Muhammad is Thy Servant and Apostle.
Regarding this supplication: in Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith Number [5069], and in Al-Da’awat al-Kabir, Hadith Number [40], it is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Whoever recites this supplication once in the morning or evening, Allah the Almighty will free one-fourth of him from the Fire. And whoever recites it twice, Allah will free half of him. And whoever recites it three times, Allah will free three-fourths of him. And whoever recites it four times, Allah will free him entirely from the Fire.’
(12) Transliteration: Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahu ‘l-mulku walahu ‘l-ḥamd, wa huwa `alā kulli shay’in qadīr. [Sahih Bukhari: 3393, Sahih Muslim: 2691]
(Recite 100 times in Arabic upon rising in the morning).
لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ. [رواه البخاري: 3293، ومسلم: 2691]
Regarding this supplication: in Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith Number [3293] and in Sahih Muslim, Hadith Number [2691], it is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
‘Whoever recites this supplication one hundred times during the day, for him will be a reward equal to that of freeing ten slaves, one hundred good deeds will be recorded for him, one hundred of his sins will be erased, and he will be protected from Satan until the evening of that day.’
(13) Transliteration: Subhanallahi w bihamdihi `adada khalqih, wa riḍā nafsih, wa zinata `arshih, wa midāda kalimātih.
(Recite three times in the morning or evening.)
سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ، عَدَدَ خَلْقِهِ، وَرِضَا نَفْسِهِ، وَزِنَةَ عَرْشِهِ، وَمِدَادَ كَلِمَاتِهِ. [رواه مسلم في صحيحه: 2726]
Translation: Allah is free from imperfection and I begin with His praise, as many times as the number of His creatures, in accordance with His Good Pleasure, equal to the weight of His Throne and equal to the ink that may be used in recording the words (for His Praise.
Regarding this supplication: there is a hadith in Sahih Muslim [2726], it is narrated from Hazrat Juwayriyah (رضي الله عنها) that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ left her presence after performing the Fajr (morning) prayer while she was still sitting in her prayer place (musalla).
Then, when the Prophet ﷺ returned around midday (Dhuhr), he found her still sitting in the same place. He asked with surprise, “Have you been sitting here in the same state since I left you?” She replied, “Yes.” Thereupon, the Prophet ﷺ said:
“After I left you, I recited these four phrases three times. If they were to be weighed against all that you have recited (of dhikr and praise) since this morning, they would outweigh it or be equal to it.”
(14) Transliteration:Astaghfirullāha wa atūbu ilayh. [Amalul yaumi wallailah, by Imam Nasayi: 454]
(Recite one hundred times in Arabic during the day.)
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ. [رواه النسائي في عمل اليوم والليلة: 454]
Translation: I seek the forgiveness of Allah and repent to Him.
Regarding this supplication: One should make arrangements to recite this supplication at least 100 times daily. Regarding this supplication, it is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) in Imam An-Nasa’i’s ‘Amal al-Yawm wa al-Laylah’ (Deeds of the Day and Night), Hadith Number [454], in one narration, that: The Prophet ﷺ used to recite this supplication frequently.
There is another hadith about its virtue in ‘Amal al-Yawm wa al-Laylah’ (Hadith Number 455). It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Busr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Glad tidings are for the one in whose record of deeds abundant seeking of forgiveness (Istighfar) is found.”
(15) Transliteration: A`ūdhu bikalimāti ‘llāhit-tāmmāti min sharri mā khalaq. [Musnad Ahmad: 8798]
(Three times in the evening.)
أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ. [رواه أحمد في مسنده: 8798]
Translation: I seek refuge in the Perfect Words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.
Regarding this supplication: there a hadith in Musnad Ahmad, [8798], it is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“Whoever recites this supplication three times in the evening will not be harmed by any poisonous creature that night.”
In Sahih Muslim, Hadith Number [2708], it is stated that: “Whoever recites it at night, nothing will harm him.”
(16) Transliteration: Allāhumma `ālima ‘l-ghaybi wash-shahādah fātir as-samāwāti wa ‘l’arḍ, Rabba kulli shay’in wa malīkah, ash-hadu an lā ilāha illā ant, a`ūdhu bika min sharri nafsī, wa min sharrish-shayṭāni wa shirkih. [Musnad Ahmad: 7961]
(Recite one time in the morning and evening.)
اللَّهُمَّ عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ، فَاطِرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ، رَبَّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَمَلِيكَهُ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي وَشَرِّ الشَّيْطَانِ وَشِرْكِهِ. [رواه أحمد في مسنده: 7961]
Translation: O Allah, Knower of the unseen and the evident, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord and Sovereign of everything, I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self and from the evil of Satan and his polytheism.
About this dhikr: Regarding the virtue of this supplication, in Musnad Ahmad, Hadith Number [7961], it is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
Hazrat Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet ﷺ, “Teach me a supplication that I may recite in the morning and the evening.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “Recite this supplication in the morning, the evening, and when you go to sleep.”
(17) Transliteration: Aṣbaḥnā wa-aṣbaḥal-mulku lillāhi, wal-ḥamdu lillāhi, as’aluka min khayri hādhāl-yawmi, wa min khayri mā fīhi, wa khayri mā badahu. Wa aūdhu bika minal-kasali, wal-harami, wa sū’il-umuri, wa fitnatid-dajjāli, wa adhābil-qabri. [Sahih ibne Hibban: 963]
(Recite one time in the morning and evening.)
أَصْبَحْنَا وَأَصْبَحَ الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِ هَذَا الْيَوْمِ، وَمِنْ خَيْرِ مَا فِيهِ، وَخَيْرِ مَا بَعْدَهُ. وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْكَسَلِ، وَالْهَرَمِ، وَسُوءِ الْعُمُرِ، وَفِتْنَةِ الدَّجَّالِ، وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ». [رواه ابن حبان في صحيحه: 963]
Translation: “We have entered the morning, and the dominion belongs to Allah. All praise is to Allah. I ask You for the good of this day, the good within it, and the good that follows it. And I seek refuge in You from laziness, incapacity of old age, evil life, the trial of the False Messiah (Dajjal), and the punishment of the grave.”
About this Dua: Regarding the virtue of this supplication, in Sahih Ibn Hibban, Hadith Number [963], it is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to recite this supplication in the morning.
And in the evening, he would also recite this same supplication, but in the evening version, he would say “أَمْسَيْنَا” (amsaynā) instead of “أَصْبَحْنَا” (asbahnā).”
(18) Transliteration: Allāhumma bika aṣbaḥnā, wa bika amsaynā, wa bika naḥyā, wa bika namūtu. [Sunan Ibn Majah: 3868]
(Recite one time in the morning)
اللَّهُمَّ بِكَ أَصْبَحْنَا، وَبِكَ أَمْسَيْنَا، وَبِكَ نَحْيَا، وَبِكَ نَمُوتُ. [رواه ابن ماجه في سننه: 3868]
Translation: O Allah, by Your power we enter the morning and by Your power we enter the evening, by Your power we live and by Your power we die.
(19) Transliteration: Allāhumma bika amsaynā, wa bika aṣbaḥnā, wa bika naḥyā, wa bika namūtu, wa ilaykal-maṣīr. [Sunan Ibn Majah: 3868]
(Recite one time in the evening.)
اللَّهُمَّ بِكَ أَمْسَيْنَا، وَبِكَ أَصْبَحْنَا، وَبِكَ نَحْيَا، وَبِكَ نَمُوتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ الْمَصِيرُ. [رواه ابن ماجه في سننه: 3868]
Translation: O Allah, by Your power we enter the evening, by Your power we enter the morning, by Your power we live, by Your power we die, and to You is our final return.
Regarding the virtue of this supplication: It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) in Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith Number [3868], that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
When you enter the morning, recite this supplication, and when you enter the evening, also recite this same supplication.
(20) Transliteration: Ya muqallibal-qulubi, thabbit qalbi ‘ala dinika. [Musnad Ahmad: 12107]
(Recite three times in the morning and evening.)
يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ، ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ. [رواه أحمد في مسنده عن أنس: 12107]
Translation: O Turner of the hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion.
Regarding this supplication: It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) in Musnad Ahmad, Hadith Number [12107], that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to frequently recite this supplication.
Apart from these, there are many other Adhkar (Supplication, Duas) that are recited in the morning and evening, but they have not been included due to the length. This article only includes those Adhkar and supplications that are commonly recited both in the morning and the evening and are proven by authentic (Sahih) or good (Hasan) Hadiths.
These supplications have great benefits. If the reciter recites them with humility and submissiveness, full attention and enthusiasm, true yearning and longing, correct intention, and a sincere heart, then, Insha Allah, they will surely benefit. May Allah Almighty grant us all the Tawfiq (ability) to recite these supplications with sincerity (Ikhlas). Ameen.
