Importance Of Duas
There are great benefits of supplications (du‘ā) in the Qur’an and Hadith, and they hold immense importance.
Allah Almighty says in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 186:
“O Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم)! When My servants ask you about Me, tell them: I am indeed near. I respond to the call of the caller when he calls upon Me. So they should obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be rightly guided.”
Allah Almighty says in Surah Ghāfir, verse 60:
“And your Lord has said: Call upon Me, I will answer your prayers. Indeed, those who show arrogance in My worship will surely enter the humiliating Hell.”
In Sunan al-Tirmidhī, Hadith no. 2139, it is narrated from Hazrat Salman al-Farsi (رضي الله عنه) that: “Only supplication can change a person’s destiny.”
In Sunan al-Tirmidhī, Hadith no. 3371, it is narrated from Hazrat Anas (رضي الله عنه) that: “Supplication is the essence and foundation of worship.”
In Sunan al-Tirmidhī, Hadith no. 3382, it is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “Whoever is pleased that Allah accepts his supplication in times of distress and difficulty should supplicate to Him abundantly during times of ease.”
In light of the above verses and Hadith, it is clearly understood that supplication has great importance in Islam. Allah Almighty wants His servants to supplicate to Him, and when a supplication is made with sincerity of heart and true intention, it is accepted.
Duas From Quran
Below, we are mentioning some Qur’anic supplications and Duas along with their translations. They certainly have great benefits, and everyone should make an effort to recite them regularly.
رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا ۭ اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ السَّمِيْعُ الْعَلِيْمُ. [البقرة – 127].
Our Lord! Accept from us (this duty) . Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Hearer, the Knower.
وَتُبْ عَلَيْنَا ۚ اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيْمُ. [البقرة – 128].
Accept our repentance. Indeed, you – and you alone – are the Most-Relenting, the Very-Merciful.
رَبَّنَآ اٰتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَّفِي الْاٰخِرَةِ حَسَـنَةً وَّقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ. [البقرة – 120].
Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of Fire.
رَبَّنَا لاَ تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِن نَّسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا رَبَّنَا وَلاَ تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِنَا رَبَّنَا وَلاَ تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لاَ طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا أَنتَ مَوْلاَنَا فَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ. [البقرة – 286].
Our Lord, do not hold us accountable, if we forget or make a mistake, and, Our Lord, do not place on us such a burden as you have placed on those before us, and, Our Lord, do not make us bear a burden for which we have no strength. And pardon us, and grant us forgiveness, and have mercy on us. You are our Lord. So then help us against the disbelieving people.
رَبَّنَا لاَ تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْوَهَّابُ. [آل عمران – 8].
Our Lord, do not let our hearts deviate from the right path after You have given us guidance, and bestow upon us mercy from Your own. Surely, you, and You alone, are the One who bestows in abundance.
رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا آمَنَّا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ. [آل عمران – 16].
Our Lord, surely we have believed, so forgive us our sins and save us from the punishment of the Fire,
رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِن لَّدُنْكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ الدُّعَاء. [آل عمران – 38].
O my Lord! Grant me from You, a good offspring. You are indeed the All-Hearer of invocation.
رَبَّنَا آمَنَّا بِمَا أَنزَلْتَ وَاتَّبَعْنَا الرَّسُولَ فَاكْتُبْنَا مَعَ الشَّاهِدِينَ. [آل عمران – 53].
Our Lord, we have believed in what You have revealed, and we have followed the messenger. So, record us with those who bear witness (to the Truth).
ربَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَإِسْرَافَنَا فِي أَمْرِنَا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَِ. [آل عمران – 147].
Our Lord, forgive us our sins and our excesses in our conduct, make firm our feet and help us against the disbelieving people.
رَبَّنَا مَا خَلَقْتَ هَذا بَاطِلاً سُبْحَانَكَ فَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ مَن تُدْخِلِ النَّارَ فَقَدْ أَخْزَيْتَهُ وَمَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ مِنْ أَنصَارٍ رَّبَّنَا إِنَّنَا سَمِعْنَا مُنَادِيًا يُنَادِي لِلإِيمَانِ أَنْ آمِنُواْ بِرَبِّكُمْ فَآمَنَّا رَبَّنَا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَكَفِّرْ عَنَّا سَيِّئَاتِنَا وَتَوَفَّنَا مَعَ الأبْرَارِ رَبَّنَا وَآتِنَا مَا وَعَدتَّنَا عَلَى رُسُلِكَ وَلاَ تُخْزِنَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ إِنَّكَ لاَ تُخْلِفُ الْمِيعَادَ. [آل عمران – 191-194].
Our Lord, You have not created all this in vain. We proclaim Your purity. So, save us from the punishment of Fire.
Our Lord, whomsoever You admit into the Fire, he is disgraced by You indeed, and for the unjust there are no supporters.
Our Lord, We heard a herald calling towards Faith: _Believe in your Lord.‘ So we believed. Our Lord, forgive us, then, our sins, and write off our evil deeds, and make us die only when we have joined the righteous.
Our Lord, give us what You have promised us through Your messengers, and do not put us to disgrace on the Day of Judgement. Surely you do not go back on Your promise.
رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ. [الأعراف – 23].
Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and do not bless us with mercy, we shall, indeed, be among the losers.
رَبَّنَا لاَ تَجْعَلْنَا مَعَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ. [الأعراف – 47].
Our Lord, do not join us with the unjust people.
رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسْلِمِينَ. [الأعراف – 126].
O our Lord, pour out patience upon us, and cause us to die as Muslims (those who submit to you).
أَنْتَ وَلِيُّنَا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْغَافِرِينَ* وَاكْتُبْ لَنَا فِي هَذِهِ الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ “[الأعراف – 155-156].
You are our protector, so forgive us, and have mercy on us, and You are the best among those who forgive.
And write for us good in this world and in the Hereafter
حَسْبِيَ اللّهُ لا إِلَـهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ. [التوبة – 129].
Enough for me is Allah. There is no god but He. In Him I have placed my trust, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne.
رَبَّنَا لاَ تَجْعَلْنَا فِتْنَةً لِّلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ وَنَجِّنَا بِرَحْمَتِكَ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ. [يونس – 85-86].
Our Lord, do not make us a victim of the unjust people, and save us, through Your mercy, from the disbelieving people.
رَبِّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَسْأَلَكَ مَا لَيْسَ لِي بِهِ عِلْمٌ وَإِلاَّ تَغْفِرْ لِي وَتَرْحَمْنِي أَكُن مِّنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ. [هود – 47].
My Lord, I seek refuge with You that I should ask You something of which I have no knowledge. If You do not forgive me and do not show mercy to me, I shall be among the losers.
فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ أَنتَ وَلِيِّي فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ ۖ تَوَفَّنِي مُسْلِمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ [يوسف- 101].
O Creator of the heavens and the Earth, You are my guardian in this world and the Hereafter. Make me die a Muslim and make me join the righteous.
رَبِّ اجْعَلْ هَـذَا الْبَلَدَ آمِنًا وَاجْنُبْنِي وَبَنِيَّ أَن نَّعْبُدَ الأَصْنَامَ. [إبرهيم – 35].
My Lord, make this city peaceful, and keep me and my children away from worshiping idols.
رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلاَةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاء. [إبرهيم – 40].
My Lord, make me steadfast in Salah, and my offspring as well. And, Our Lord, grant my prayer.
رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الْحِسَابُ. [إبرهيم – 41].
Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and all believers on the day when reckoning shall take place.
رَّبِّ أَدْخِلْنِي مُدْخَلَ صِدْقٍ وَأَخْرِجْنِي مُخْرَجَ صِدْقٍ وَاجْعَل لِّي مِن لَّدُنكَ سُلْطَانًا نَّصِيرًا. [الإسراء – 80].
O my Lord, make me enter a rightful entrance and make me exit a rightful exit, and grant me from Your Own a power, favored (by You).
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً وَهَيِّئْ لَنَا مِنْ أَمْرِنَا رَشَدًا. [الكهف – 10].
Our Lord, bless us with mercy from Your own and provide us with guidance in our matters.
رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّن لِّسَانِي يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي. [طه – 25-28].
My Lord, put my heart at peace for me, and make my task easy for me, and remove the knot from my tongue, so that they may understand my speech.
رَّبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا. [طه – 114].
O my Lord! increase me in knowledge!
لا إِلَهَ إِلا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ. [الأنبياء – 87].
There is no god but You. Pure are You. Indeed I was among the wrongdoers.
رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ. [الأنبياء – 89].
My Lord, do not leave me alone and You are the best of inheritors.
رَّبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِينِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَن يَحْضُرُونِ. [المؤمنون – 97-98].
My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the strokes of the satans (devils)
and I seek refuge in You, my Lord, even from their coming near me.
رَبَّنَا آمَنَّا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِمِينَ. [المؤمنون – 109].
our Lord! we have believed, wherefore forgive us and have mercy upon us, and Thou art the Best of the merciful ones!
رَّبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِمِينَ. [المؤمنون – 118].
My Lord, grant pardon and have mercy, for you are the best of all the merciful.
رَبَّنَا اصْرِفْ عَنَّا عَذَابَ جَهَنَّمَ إِنَّ عَذَابَهَا كَانَ غَرَامًا*إِنَّهَا سَاءَتْ مُسْتَقَرًّا وَمُقَامًا. [الفرقان- 65- 66].
Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Jahannam (the Hell); indeed, its punishment is a persisting affliction. Indeed, it is evil as an abode and a place to dwell in
رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا. [الفرقان- 74].
Our Lord, Give us, from our spouses and our children, comfort of eyes, and make us heads of the God-fearing.
رَبِّ هَبْ لِي حُكْمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ* وَاجْعَلْ لِي لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ فِي الآخِرِينَ * وَاجْعَلْنِي مِن وَرَثَةِ جَنَّةِ النَّعِيمِ. [الشعراء- 83- 85].
O my Lord, give me wisdom, and make me join the righteous, and destine for me a truthful description among the next generations, and make me among those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss,
رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِي أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَى وَالِدَيَّ وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَالِحًا تَرْضَاهُ وَأَدْخِلْنِي بِرَحْمَتِكَ فِي عِبَادِكَ الصَّالِحِين. [النمل- 19].
My Lord, enable me to become grateful to Your favor that you have bestowed on me and on my parents, and to do good deeds that You like, and admit me, with Your mercy, among Your righteous servants.
رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِي أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَى وَالِدَيَّ وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَالِحًا تَرْضَاهُ وَأَصْلِحْ لِي فِي ذُرِّيَّتِي إِنِّي تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَإِنِّي مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ. [الأحقاف- 15].
My Lord, grant me that I offer gratitude for the favour You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and that I do righteous deeds that You like. And set righteousness, for my sake, in my progeny. Of course, I repent to you, and truly I am one of those who submit to You.
رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلِإِخْوَانِنَا الَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِالإِيمَانِ وَلا تَجْعَلْ فِي قُلُوبِنَا غِلاً لِّلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ رَؤُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ. [الحشر- 10].
Our Lord, forgive us and those of our brothers who preceded us in faith, and do not place in our hearts any rancor against those who believe; Surely, Our Lord, you are Very-Kind, Very-Merciful.
رَبَّنَا لا تَجْعَلْنَا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ. [الممتحنة- 5].
Our Lord, forgive us and those of our brothers who preceded us in faith, and do not place in our hearts any rancor against those who believe; Surely, Our Lord, you are Very-Kind, Very-Merciful.
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيْتِيَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ. [النوح- 28].
My Lord, grant pardon to me, and to my parents, and to everyone who enters my home as a believer, and to all the believing men and believing women, and do not increase the wrongdoers but in ruin.
